For certain things such as Staff abbreviations for timetables, and when using the Is Teaching Staff? column in the Custom Report Writer, staff are categorised into teaching staff and non-teaching staff. This is different to how staff are characterised as teachers for cover.
The categorisation is done based on business roles, so if a staff member has a teaching staff business role and a non-teaching staff business role, they are still counted as teaching staff. It is not possible to change which category business roles fall into.
You can see whether a business role is classed as a teaching staff role by going to School > Users & Security. Select the business role.
To save you checking, we've listed all teaching staff roles below:
- Art/Design Technician
- Assistant Head Teacher
- Creative Arts Specialist
- Deputy Head Teacher
- Executive Head Teacher
- Head of Department
- Head of Faculty
- Head of House

- Instructor (including sports coach)

This simply does not make any sense? - Can you provide a reason to why they are treated at Teaching Staff?
Hi Matt, please note that this isn't a list of teachers, it's a list of anyone we've considered may be present in the classroom. It doesn't feed into the workforce census or any statutory reporting, so there's no need to worry! If you'd like to clarify as to which part doesn't make sense that would also help.
I'd have to agree with Matt, it would be helpful to be able to edit which roles we deem as 'Teaching Roles' in my humble option the only roles that are 'Teaching Staff' should be actual qualified Teachers so the fact I cannot change this is frustrating.
