Using Meals on a day to day basis

This help centre article will explain how to use meals daily. The best way of doing this will depend on how you've set up your meals on your site.

  • Option 1 - If you have set up meal choices for your students
  • Option 2 - If you don't use meal choices
  • Option 3 - If admins (not teachers) input meal choices each day

If your school allows children to change their provisions daily, you don't need to set up meal choices. However, if you wish to set up meal choices please refer to the final section in this article: Setting Up Meals

Option 1 - using meals when you have attendees and meal choices

There are two ways you can add meal choices for attendees

Managing meals from the Lesson Overview

You can add student meal choices via the lessons dashboard. This option would be useful for teachers and teaching assistants who take the register in the morning.

When meal choices have been set for students, the meal choices will pull through in the Meal choice section of the lesson dashboard.

Staff would be able to check that the daily meal choices are correct and change any meal choices if needed. The meal choices will pull through according to the student's attendance.

Using meals from the Meal Daily Summary Page

You can also add meal choices in the daily summary in the meal section on Arbor. This option is useful for admin and office staff members.

Go to School > Meals > Daily Summary > View registers. Tick the boxes next to the students and click the blue pencil icon to select the meal.

Option 2 - using meals when you have attendees and no meal choices

Managing meals from the Lesson Overview

If your school hasn't set up meal choices for students, just like option 1 staff will be able to use the lesson overview to add in meal choices for the students. Teachers can add a meal choice for students using the meal provisions created during meal setup.

Using meals from the Meal Daily Summary Page

You can also add meal choices in the daily summary in the meal section on Arbor. This option would be useful for admin and office staff members.

Go to School > Meals > Daily Summary > Add Student. Type in the name of the student to add their meal provision. This option could be used if you will be adding a meal choice for one student.

Alternatively, you can go to School > Meals > Daily Summary > View registers. Tick the boxes next to the students and click the blue pencil icon to select the meal.

Option 3 - using meals when you have no attendees and no meal choices

If you have not added any attendees to the meals set up, you would not be unable to use the Lesson Overview to manage meal choices as no students will be available to selected their meal choices.

Go to School > Meals > Daily Summary > Add Student. Type in the name of the student to add their meal provision. This option could be used if you will be adding a meal choice for one student.

You would not be able to add meals in bulk from School > Meals > Daily Summary > View registers, as the students will not be listed in the list of students in the meal register.
