Covid-related attendance codes to use for 2021/2022

For 2021/2022, in line with new DfE guidance, there are two new attendance codes (X08 and X09). You will also no longer be able to record X03 and X04 codes, but can still report on these for last year.

Omicron variant

If students are required to self isolate due to contact with the Omicron variant, you should use the X09 code to record this.

The Y code - Asymptomatic testing programme

In line with the Schools coronavirus (COVID-19) operational guidance, Secondary schools should use the Y code for secondary pupils not expected to be attending school for lessons during the first week of term due to testing. You can record this for students using a Planned Absence.

The C code - Authorised non-attendance

We expect schools not to use the C code for Covid-related absence, but discuss with the DfE if unsure.
