Previously, it was only possible to view and add staff absences if you had either the Staff Profile: All Staff: Basic HR Administration or the Staff Profile: Cover: Administer permission.
You let us know the All Staff: Basic HR Administration permission gave users the ability to do too many other actions. You also told us that cover managers should be able to see that the absence exists, but not be able to delve into the details like an HR Administrator would need to.
We've made changes to permissions to allow you to manage this more easily.
What are the changes?
We have:
- Removed the ability to view and edit staff absences from the Staff Profile: All Staff: Basic HR Administration and Staff Profile: Cover: Administer permissions.
- Added two new permissions - Staff Profile: Absences: Administer (add, update and delete staff absences) and Staff Profile: Absences: View (view staff absences).
- Automatically given the two new permissions to anyone who has the Staff Profile: All Staff: Basic HR Administration or Staff Profile: Cover: Administer permissions. This means your staff who had access previously will still be able to take all the same actions as before, and should not notice any change.
If your school manages business roles, the two new permissions have been added to any business role with either the Staff Profile: All Staff: Basic HR Administration or Staff Profile: Cover: Administer permissions.
If the business role is managed by Arbor, the two new permissions have been added to these business roles:
- Administration Assistant
- Assistant Head Teacher
- Bursar/Business Manager
- Deputy Head Teacher
- Executive Head Teacher
- Head Teacher
- Human Resources Administrator
- School Administrator
- Senior Management Team
- Cover Manager
Do we need to do anything?
We recommend checking with a few of your staff that they are able to access all the same areas of Arbor. If you need to assign them the ability to view or administer staff absences you can give them permission using these instructions. Please note that staff will need both permissions to view and manage staff absences.
Since you can control access to staff absences separately from cover and HR administration, this means if you want to limit what your cover managers can see and do with staff absences, you can! Just follow these instructions: Remove permission from a user
We've made these improvements based on feedback from schools like you
We really value feedback from our schools and use this to help us improve the Arbor MIS, so we’d love to hear from you. You can see what else we’re working on and submit feedback using our Roadmap.
