The Suspension Analysis feature in MAT MIS allows MATs to monitor and track suspensions across their schools. This feature provides a set of data tables populated by records aggregated from School MIS in Snowflake. It enables MATs to gain insights into suspension rates, trends, and student-specific suspension data.
Who can access this feature?
- Users need Group: Student Exclusions: View All Students permissions to access it.
- The feature is available in all non-legacy tiers.
Key Functionality
The Suspension Analysis feature provides the following key functionality:
School Summary
Contains a record for each school for the academic year selected. Has values for overall rate (defined by DfE as number of suspensions per 100 students) along with rates for key demographics. Also includes counts of suspensions, bandings for suspension counts, total days lost along with a benchmark placing in Arbor’s National Dataset
Student Summary
Contains a record for each student with one or more suspensions for the academic year selected. Contextual data includes enrolment, attendance and key demographic indicators along with total suspensions, days lost and reasons for suspension.
Trends
Contains a record for each school in the trust to demonstrate what an ‘average suspension’ looks like in that school - useful to determine whether schools are following policy for frequency and length of suspension
Week by Week
Contains a record for each school and each week of the academic year selected. Contains data banded by Year group as well as total numbers and days lost. Useful for MATs to create charts via LiveFeeds to track their weekly changes in suspensions.
Students Suspensions Across Group
Contains a record for each student with at least one suspension in the academic year selected. It uses UPN to track student enrolments across all schools in the MAT and provides a summary of all suspensions regardless of which school they were logged in. The school listed is the school with the latest enrolment record for the student.
If a student has been registered at any of the schools with a temporary/different UPN then we'll be unable to provide a true suspension summary for them
This is useful for ensuring students don't exceed the DfE's 45-day maximum suspension limit.
Navigating to Suspension Analysis
To access the Suspension Analysis feature:
- Go to Analytics
- Select Behaviour
- Select the relevant tab name (e.g., School Summary, Student Summary, etc.).
Important Information
- Calculation Logic: Calculations align with DfE methodology, considering the entire student cohort enrolled (with non-guest status) during the time period.
- Data Freshness: Suspensions data is ingested on a medium schedule and refreshed three times a day as detailed here
- Data Updates: Suspension data entered in the morning will be reflected in the tables after the 1:20 pm refresh.
- UPN Tracking: The "Students Suspensions Across Group" functionality relies on UPNs to track students; temporary or incorrect UPNs may prevent accurate record linking.
