The EXAM_RESULTS_HYDRATED table in Arbor's BI Connector is designed to provide a filtered view of qualification awards, primarily for calculating metrics used in student summaries and headlines. It is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all exam results. If you want a dataset with all, please use the EXAM_RESULTS dataset instead.

Passing and U Grades
The main characteristics of grades in the EXAM_RESULTS_HYDRATED table compared to others are as follows:
- This table generally only includes qualifications where a passing grade was achieved. This means the non-passing grades are not included in most cases. The exception to this is English and/or Science qualifications.
-
Only 'U' grades for Science and English awards will be present in this table. You should not see 'U' grades for other qualifications.
- For English, if a student has taken both English Literature and English Language, both results (including 'U' grades) will appear regardless of whether they passed. This is because the English bucket for Progress 8 calculations is doubled in such cases, and even a 'U' grade will impact the overall Progress 8 score.
- For Science, 'U' grades for Science awards are included in the table to allow for checking if a student has taken double or triple science.
Inclusion Criteria
For a result to be included in the EXAM_RESULTS_HYDRATED table, the following criteria must be met:
- The result must be the award, not an assessable or learning unit.
- A QAN code for the award must be present.
- The award must be listed in the KS4 Performance Points file created by the DfE. You can find this file on the UK government website here.
- Qualifications sat in Year 11, or an earlier year group, will show. However, qualifications sat in later year groups (e.g. Years 12, 13 or 14) will not show
- 'U' grades from GCSE Awards in Science and English may also be included (as per the exceptions mentioned above).
- For each discount code, we show the result for the highest qualification level. If there is more than one at that level, we only include the first result.
Accessing All Exam Results
If you need to see all exam results, regardless of grade or qualification type, you should use the EXAM_RESULTS table.
For a mix of both datasets, allowing you to access the additional 'hydrated' fields alongside all results, you can use the EXAM_RESULTS table and left join it with EXAM_RESULTS_HYDRATED. The primary key for both views is QUALIFICATION_RESULT_UNIQUE_ID.
