Nursery Troubleshooting 3: Course Structures and Funded Hours

Learn how to fix a "messy" course structure, why students might appear as being out of a lesson and how to resolve issues recording Student Funded Hours.

This guide is the first in a last of three. The guides in this series are:

Permissions

  • You'll need the Academic Structure: Administer permission to amend the Nursery course structure.
  • You'll need the Admin: Administer All Students permission to amend the Nursery Funded Hours.

If you don't have the above permissions, you'll need to ask your admin team to give you permission using these instructions.

Problem: My nursery course structure is messy, e.g. Modules appear under the incorrect courses

  1. Head to School > Programmes Courses, and if your Nursery class looks like the below, i.e. Tuesday courses sat within a Monday module. This will need to be adjusted.

2. This can be easily done by going into each Module and changing the 'Component of' in the Admin Section.

3. Click on this Component of section and then, in the slide-over, click the orange Edit button.

4. Click on the Parent Component section and choose Nursery from the dropdown.

5. Then click the green Move To New Parent Component button.

The course will then revert to the former Component of: Nursery section and be included in the list shown when you click the + next to the Nursery icon.

Option 2 is to delete the incorrect module completely - you can only action this if you haven’t taken attendance for this new module.

If you wish to do this instead, click the red Delete Course button on the top right side of the page.

This may take a few minutes to complete the deletion, but then the system will take you back to the main Nursery overview page.

Problem: Why are my students scheduled out of lessons on the Nursery register?

This is due to the fact that the students have also been scheduled to attend a lesson, event, etc. at the same time as the Nursery lesson.

Once the student has been removed from the incorrect session, the pop-up message will be removed.

Problem: Why can't I add Funded Hours for a student?

If you are unable to record the funded hours for a student, I would first confirm that the student has the correct funded type added to their profile. To add this, you will need to go to:

  1. Students > All Students > Bulk Update > Bulk Update Student Funding Records
  2. At the top right of the page, click the green Add Student Funding button.

Please note: Funded hours are not reported for 4-year-olds in Reception. Due to this, Reception students are not needed include funded hours.
