On many of our reporting pages, you can choose to view the data for students who belong to different demographic groups - one of them is students who are not compulsory school age.
In general, this usually means a child who is age 5 to 15, but whether a student 'counts' as 5 depends on when their birthday is compared with today's date.
A child reaches compulsory school age at the start of the first school term after their 5th birthday. This means that:
- Children who turn 5 between 1st September and 31st December will not count as compulsory school age until after 31st December.
- Children who turn 5 between 1st January and 31st March will not count as compulsory school age until after 31st March.
- Children who turn 5 between 1st April and 31st August will not count as compulsory school age until after 31st August.
