This article explains how to customise staff names and roles on report cards in Arbor. Users can change the format of names to initials. However, certain roles like Head of Year cannot be altered in standard report cards. Custom Report Cards allow for more flexibility in displaying staff roles and names.
You may wish to change the format of a staff member's name on a report card, for example, to hide their first name but keep their full surname or to show only their initials.
Can we change the name format for staff?
By default:
- The standard report card will show names in the format J.Bloggs.
- The long report card will show names in the format Joe Bloggs.
- Custom Report Cards show the staff member's name in the format shown in custom reports. This format cannot be changed and is their preferred name in full (or their legal name if no preferred name is set)

Changing the format of a staff member's role title
You may wish to change the format of a staff member's role, e.g. Head of Year displaying as Pupil Engagement Officer instead.
It is not possible to change Head of Year or Head of House to another role using standard report cards.
This can be done using Custom Report Cards. When creating the Report Card Layout, name the staff member's role as you would like it to display and insert the merge field for the value as it appears in Arbor:
This would then appear in the report card like so:
Removing staff
It isn't possible to remove a role from a default report card, such as the Head of Year or Head of House.
