Creating Interventions with Ask Arbor

This guide explains how to use the Ask Arbor Intervention Assistant to create interventions.

Permissions

  • You need to School:Intervention:Administer all InterventionsSchool: Intervention: View my Intervention Groups, Student Profile: SEN: View All Students or Student Profile: SEN: View My Students to access the Students > Interventions > Dashboard page.
  • You need the School: Intervention: Administer permissions or Student: Special Education Needs: Administer My/All Students to create interventions (Ask Arbor can only take actions for you that you have permission to take yourself).
  • You need the School: Arbor AI: View Arbor AI permission to use Ask Arbor.
  • You need feature access to Ask Arbor

If you cannot see the Ask Arbor button or specific AI features mentioned in this guide, but believe you need access to save time in your role, please contact your school's admin team and refer them to this guidance on managing AI permissions.

Opening the Interventions Assistant

To use the Interventions Assistant, you must open Ask Arbor from the Students > Interventions > Dashboard page.

  • Either click the Ask Arbor button in the top-right corner of that page
  • Or, select the green Create Intervention button on that page

The Ask Arbor Interventions Assistant will then open on a slide-over that will show the following notice: "This Ask Arbor is trained to help you set up an intervention."

Opening the Interventions Assistant elsewhere

If you try to create an intervention using Ask Arbor on a different page, using the Main or Classroom Assistants, for example, Ask Arbor will direct you to Students > Interventions > Dashboard to start a new conversation with the Interventions Assistant from that page to continue.

Creating an Intervention with Ask Arbor

Once you have the correct Ask Arbor Assistant, either write some information on the intervention you want to create in a message, or use the Interventions Prompt Library tiles to get started.

Once you get the process started, Ask Arbor will walk you through the steps and create an intervention for you once you have provided the relevant details.

Any Interventions Ask Arbor creates can be found on the Students > Interventions > Dashboard page.

Once Ask Arbor has created an intervention, you can ask it to add Intervention Groups and Tiemetable Slots, too. Just provide Ask Arbor with the details of the groups and the slots.

What Ask Arbor cannot do

Ask Arbor is not able to enrol students in Interventions for you; this step always needs to be completed by a human.

See how to manually enrol students in an intervention Ask Arbor has created for you here: Creating an intervention from the dashboard (Step 5)

Tips for using Ask Arbor

  • Be specific — the more detail you include (year group, subject, date range), the more accurate the response. Find our guidance on effective prompting here: Prompting Arbor AI and Ask Arbor (the Basics)
  • Use natural language — just type as you’d ask a colleague.
  • Try follow-up questions — Ask Arbor remembers your context within a single chat.
  • You can export, save, or share many Ask Arbor results depending on your role permissions in Arbor.
  • For complex questions or tasks, use the Let me know when it's done button in Ask Arbor to notify you when it's done rather than waiting for it to respond.
