Childcare errors - 2910, 2950, 2970 and 2935

This article explains how to resolve specific childcare-related errors (2910, 2950, 2970, and 2935) that may occur during the Spring Census for schools. It provides detailed instructions on how to input childcare information correctly to avoid these errors, including steps for both providing and not providing childcare services.

What are these errors?

In the Spring Census, your school is required to provide information on the childcare places your school offers. You must input this information into your site, even if you don't offer this type of childcare.

If you don't fill in the information correctly, you'll see errors appear in the DfE Validation section of your census. Including:

  • Error 2950: Childcare type 'A' has not been provided.
  • Error 2950: Childcare type 'B' has not been provided.
  • Error 2950: Childcare type H' has not been provided.
  • Error 2950: Childcare type 'U' has not been provided.
  • Error 2910: Signposting or promotion of off-site childcare is missing.
  • Error 2970: Under 5 childcare places must be greater than 9 hours
  • Error 2935: Ability to accept pupils from other schools is missing

These errors will also appear in your Arbor Validation section. For example:

  • Child care signposting information required
  • Child care places: Entry for child care type 'Under five' is missing.
  • Child care places: Entry for child care type 'After school' is missing. There must be one (and only one) entry for each type of child care.
  • Child care places: Entry for child care type 'Before school' is missing. There must be one (and only one) entry for each type of child care.

For each error, you can either:

We don't provide a certain type of childcare

Even if you do not provide one of the four types of childcare as defined by the DfE (see How are the types of childcare defined?), you must record this to avoid Errors 2950 and 2910.

Error 2950

  1. Head to the Arbor Validations section of your census or go to School > School Details > School Details
    • (Via School Details) Click +Add in the child care places section to add a new record, or click on an existing record to edit it
    • (Via Arbor Validations) Click on one of the 'Child care places' validation errors
  2. Select the relevant Childcare type
  3. Set Childcare location to Not providing On-site or Off-site
  4. Set Childcare signposting fields to No.
  5. Click Next Step
  6. Input a name for the record
  7. Click the green Add childcare place button.
  8. Regenerate your census, and the error will then be removed.

Repeat the steps above for each type of childcare that you do not provide.

Error 2910

If you do not select No in the Childcare signposting field, this will trigger Error 2910. To fix this:

  1. Head to the Arbor Validations section of your census or go to School > School Details > School Details
    1. (Via School Details) Click +Add in the child care places section to add a new record, or click on an existing record to edit it
    2. (Via Arbor Validations) Click on one of the 'Child care places' validation errors
  2. Set the relevant Childcare type
  3. Set Childcare location to Not providing On-site or Off-site
  4. Set Childcare signposting to No
  5. Click the green Save Changes button and regenerate your census and the error will then be removed.

We do provide this type of childcare

For each of the four types of childcare as defined by the DfE (see How are the types of childcare defined?) that you do provide, you must ensure you record this to avoid errors.

See how to input this data here: Recording Childcare for the Spring Census

Error 2950

This error flags if no childcare details have been recorded at all.

To avoid this and remove this error:

  • Ensure you fill in the details of the childcare provision and any signposting, then click Add Child Care Place
  • Regenerate your census, and the error will then be removed.

Error 2910

Fill in the details of the childcare provision and any signposting, then click Add Child Care Place. Regenerate your census and the error will then be removed.

Do not click the Delete button as this will cause error 2950 to be triggered, as information on child care must be provided.

Error 2970

To resolve Error 2970, if your school provides childcare for under 5s, the number of hours of childcare offered per day must be greater or equal to 9.

There are two ways to resolve this, depending on the type of childcare you offer:

My school offers childcare for under 5s, and it is for more than 9 hours

In the slide over, click the orange Edit button. Update the fields with the correct information, then click Save Changes.

Regenerate your census, and the error will then be removed.

Do not click the Delete button as this will cause error 2950 to be triggered, as information on child care must be provided.

My school offers childcare for under 5s, but it is for less than 9 hours

If your school offers childcare for under 5s, but it is less than 9 hours, you do not need to report this as being provided. You do still need to record that you do not provide this (please see section We don't provide a certain type of childcare on how to record this).

Error 2935

Ability to accept pupils from other schools is missing.

Go to School > School details and click on the childcare places already added that have caused the error to flag. Edit the Child care places field to say No for other schools. Leave the field for Under 5 childcare empty.
