Student Profile - SEN FAQ

This article covers common questions regarding SEN and student profiles. If you cannot find an answer to your query in this guide, check our dedicated section of the Help Centre on this topic here.

Can I add an SEN need that is not in the existing list?

No, it is not possible to add new SEN needs to the existing list in Arbor. This is because the list of SEN Needs is derived from the UK DfE SEN Need Types list which displays the information in the census. Due to this, we would recommend selecting the closest option from the available list.

Why doesn't our top-up funding and EHCP student numbers match?

Adding an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) for a student will not automatically log top-up funding for the student and vice versa. These two areas of Arbor are not linked, and it is possible for students to be eligible for funding without EHCP.

If your numbers for students with top-up funding and EHCP are different and you know they should be the same, you will need to make sure that you have logged both on your student profile:

Can we record SENDiF funding?

This data is not collected in the census, so there is no built-in way to record SENDiF funding (SEND Inclusion Fund for early years children).

In Arbor, you can use a User Defined Field to indicate if someone is a SENDiF student: Using User Defined Fields (UDFs).

Please note that you should not record this using one of the existing funding types as this will cause errors in your census. This is because Top-up funding is meant for recording students with high SEN needs, whereas SENDiF refers to students with low-level needs.

What are the SEN Rankings for?

SEN rankings allow you to prioritise and display multiple educational needs for a student based on severity, aiding in the management of students with various needs.

When adding a SEN Need, you have the option of inputting the ranking. This ranking determines the order in which SEN Needs are displayed on the student's profile and in Students > Educational Needs > Students with SEN
