Transitioning from ClassCharts to Arbor

This article is designed for school and MAT teams considering moving away from ClassCharts. You might be asking what you need to do first, what training you will need and setup times for each area. This guide will help you understand everything you need to action for a smooth rollout.

Considerations

One of the things to consider is that SIMS has a two-way sync of attendance data from ClassCharts into SIMS. Arbor does not include this functionality; you may decide to replace the functionality of ClassCharts with Arbor (to avoid dual entry of attendance data).

Schools use the features of ClassCharts differently, so it's important to review how you currently use the functionality. While every school's journey is unique, a structured, step-by-step rollout is a best practice we highly recommend. The most successful transitions involve careful preparation in these three areas:

  • Staff Training Needs: Clearly identify which teams and staff members need training on the relevant Arbor modules to ensure confidence and effective use from day one.
  • Detailed Planning and Preparation: Outline a clear project plan that maps out tasks, timelines, and responsibilities before the module is rolled out to all staff.
  • Clear Communication and Rollout Plan: Develop a concise communication plan to explain the change, its benefits, and the new processes to all staff, students, and parents (if applicable).

Can I Replace ClassCharts on Day One?

This is a frequent question! We do recommend a phased approach to roll out, if at all possible. This means staff get up to speed with the basics, before moving on to more complex functionality (reducing the risk of staff feeling overwhelmed by the move and you can build in more time for planning.

However, it is possible to replace ClassCharts' functionality immediately with the right amount of up-front planning. Your leadership team should assess the appetite for change and capacity to plan effectively to ensure a smooth, successful launch.

These resources will be helpful as you review replacing ClassCharts with Arbor for the specific functional areas.

*You may not use all of the areas below in ClassCharts currently
