Signing my child up for a Trip on the Parent Portal

You can register your child for a trip using the Parent App. This guide explains how this works for both paid and free trips, and how to see which trips your child is signed up for.

See how to sign a child up for a trip through the App here: Signing my child up for a Trip on the Parent App

Important notes

  • If you are unable to sign up, please contact your school. They will need to follow these instructions.
  • Please note that once you have signed up, you will need to contact your school if you would like to cancel your participation or request a refund.

The All Trips page

Access the All Trips area from the Parent Portal homepage by clicking Trips within the Activities section.

The Trips main page features three sections:

  • Upcoming Trips are any trips the child is currently registered for
  • Past Trips are trips which have taken place
  • Trips Open to are the trips the child can currently register for

Trip Overview pages

Click on a trip on the School Trips page to go to its overview. On this page, you see details like:

  • Your child's registration status
  • The name and description of the trip
  • The location and dates
  • The number of available places
  • The price and whether voluntary contribution is enabled
  • How much has already been paid, and when the last payment was made
  • The amount left to pay (if enabled by your school)
  • Any attached documents

A Trip's Overview page is also where you register your child for a trip, and where you add additional payments for a trip your child is already registered for.

Registering your child for a trip

To start registering a child for a trip, click on the desired trip in the Trips Open to section to open its Overview.

Click on the green Sign Up button on the right-hand side to begin the registration process.

Registering for a free trip

After you click the Sign up button, a slide-over menu appears where you can add consent (if your school requires this) for the trip by ticking the checkbox and ticking Add Consent.

If the school does not require consent, you will not see a tickbox, but you will see an Add consent button. Click this to register your child.

Once consents have been confirmed, you will be taken back to the Trip Overview page. You will now see that the Status field will have been updated to confirmed (assuming consent was not refused).

If you return to the All Trips page, the trip will now be in the Upcoming Trips section, rather than Open Trips.

Registering a child for a Paid Trip

With trips that require a payment, the signup process is slightly different.

  • On the All Trips page, click the one you need in the Trips Open to section to open its overview page.
  • Click the Sign Up button on the right-hand side

Depending on whether instalments and voluntary contributions are allowed, you will see a slightly different slide-over screen. The sections below take you through these variations.

Top tips:

  • There is no option to consent for a paid trip, as the student's place is instead confirmed by the payment made towards it.
  • Can't click the button? Follow this article: I can't click the button to pay?

Trips without instalments and/or voluntary contribution

When voluntary contributions are not allowed, you see this in the Trip prices section of the slide-over. And you can tell the instalments are not available because you cannot adjust the Payment Amount.

To register your child for the trip, you need to pay the full amount. Click Pay to proceed to the secure checkout screen, or click Add to basket to complete the purchase later (Using the basket to make payments on the Parent App).

Trips where instalments are permitted

If you can pay for a trip in instalments, the Trip Prices section of the registration slide-over shows a Minimum instalment amount.

The Payment amount field automatically defaults to the minimum payment. This may not be the same as the threshold/deposit amount your school has set to automatically confirm your child for the trip.

Click Make Payment to go to the secure checkout screen immediately, or click Add to basket to complete the purchase later (Using the basket to make payments on the Parent App).

If you complete the payment and do not meet the automatic confirmation threshold, the Trip Overview notes this in the Registration status section after you complete your payment. You will be advised that your child's spot has been reserved but not yet confirmed.

Trips where voluntary contributions are allowed

See if voluntary contribution is Allowed in the Trip Prices section of the slide-over.

You can select more than the maximum payment or less than the minimum if your school has chosen to allow voluntary or variable contributions.

  • You still need to pay the minimum instalment amount set by your school per payment
  • Your child will only be automatically confirmed for the trip if you pay more than the confirmation threshold set by your school
  • You can only sign up without paying if your school has chosen to allow voluntary or variable contributions and does not accept instalments.

Set the Payment amount you wish to pay. The amount defaults to the minimum instalment amount set by the school.

Then click Make Payment to complete the payment on the secure checkout screen, or click Add to basket to complete the purchase later (Using the basket to make payments on the Parent App).

The secure checkout page

Once you click Pay/Make Payment on the registration slide-over, you are taken to the secure checkout page from our payment provider, Stripe.

Depending on your school's Arbor package and your browser/device settings, you will have various payment options.

  • Pay by card by manually adding your card details and email address (1), optionally save these for next time (2) and click Pay (3)

  • Use Apple Pay or Google Pay (if available). Just click the button and follow the instructions on screen.

  • Use Onelink, click the button, sign up or log in and follow the instructions on screen. If you have previously saved your details with Onelink, your payment method defaults to Onelink. More on this in the next section.

Saved card details with Onelink

If you saved your card details with Onelink previously, your payment method automatically defaults to Onelink.

  • You may be asked to enter a two-factor authentication code sent to your mobile number before you can confirm the payment.
  • Click Send code to email instead if you prefer to receive the code via email; enter your phone number and click Verify to receive an email code.

  • Click Pay without Onelink if you would prefer to use a different payment method

  • Click the three horizontal dots and select Log out of Onelink if you prefer to use a different method and not to default to Onelink next time you try to make a payment.

Additional verification with your bank

You may then have to authenticate your identity for the payment to go through. This is a requirement of the recently introduced Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) regulations

If authentication is needed for the payment, you will be prompted to authenticate the payment using the method of authentication your bank supports. This could be:

  • an SMS code,
  • your mobile banking app
  • another method

For example, here's what it may look like if you're using Monzo. (Please note, we are not affiliated with Monzo, this is purely an example)

Once we've been able to confirm your identity, the payment will be completed and your card will be charged. You'll see confirmation that the transaction has been successful.

Viewing the trip after you've paid or completed the booking

If you've paid the full price of the trip or if your school allows variable contributions, the status of the trip will then change to confirmed, and the trip will appear on the All Trips page in the Upcoming Trips, rather than the Open Trips section

If you have more left to pay, click the outstanding balance on your homepage.

Select the trip to add further payments to.

The amount you have left to pay is displayed at the top of the page and you can make another payment if your school allows this.
