This article explains how to edit or delete Special Educational Needs (SEN/ALN) statuses and needs in a student profile. It outlines the necessary permissions required to manage these details and provides step-by-step instructions for editing or deleting SEN/ALN statuses and needs.
For Welsh schools, please note that SEN is the English equivalent of ALN. You may see SEN instead of ALN in screenshots, but the functionality and guidance for these fields remain the same.
In this article, you can see how to edit or delete SEN/ALN Statuses and Needs. You can see how to add them here: SEN/ALN (Special Educational Needs) on the Student Profile
Permissions
You'll need the Student: Special Education Needs: Administer My/All Students permission (also called Student: SEN/ALN: Administer My/All Students) to manage SEN/ALN details for students e.g. delete a SEN/ALN need. If you don't have the permission, you'll need to ask your admin team to give you permission using these instructions.
SEN/ALN Statuses
Go to the Student Profile and click Educational Needs in the left-hand menu. Click on the student's Status in the SEN/ALN Status Assignment History section.
Click the orange Edit button.
Click the red Delete SEN/ALN Status button, or edit the information and click the green button at the bottom of the slide over.
Can we edit SEN/ALN to be a different status?
You cannot edit the SEN/ALN status type:
- If you recorded the SEN/ALN status incorrectly, delete it and add it again
- If the student's SEN/ALN status has now changed, you should add an end date to the old SEN/ALN status, and add a new one. You can see how to add a new one here: Adding SEN/ALN (Special Educational Need) for a student
Special Educational Need
