This article helps explain WJEC/Eduqas qualification codes and entries. It provides guidance on the terminology WJEC/Eduqas uses and frequently asked questions.
Award and Unit are two separate qualifications
For unitised WJEC subjects, WJEC requires two separate types of entry: Unit and Cash-in entries. Each type gets its own six-digit code.
- Unit Entry - You will need one for every unit or component a student sits, including non-exam and coursework units.
- Cash-in Entry: This is a separate entry you submit alongside the Unit entries to claim the overall subject award. WJEC labels this code "Cash-in" in its own basedata, and it is what actually generates a certificate.
Because there are two separate qualifications entered in WJEC's system, they will show up as two separate lines in Arbor.
Top Tip: If a student has all of their Unit entries, but doesn't have a Cash-in entry, they will not receive an overall grade from WJEC.
FAQs
Which code is the award?
For WJEC/Eduqas, the Cash-in code is the Award.
Why is a Welsh code or title appearing for an English-medium entry?
For some qualifications, WJEC uses the same scheme code for both English-medium and Welsh-medium entries. In WJEC's own basedata, units link to the scheme through the shared scheme code and the basedata holds two title definitions for the scheme - one English and one Welsh.
Because WJEC lists the Welsh title last in its basedata, Arbor saves and displays that Welsh title against the scheme code.
This will not affect your entries or results. Students are entered into the Cash-in (Award) and Unit codes, not the scheme code itself.
Top Tip: It only affects screens that display the scheme-level title, such as the Qualification Offering page.
If you are unsure if the code is correct, we recommend verifying the candidate's Statement of Entry on the WJEC Portal, as this shows exactly what WJEC has recorded for the student.
