Awarding Behaviour Points

This article explains how to award behaviour points in Arbor for both positive and negative behaviours. It details the necessary permissions, various methods for recording points, and the information required when logging points. Additionally, it addresses common issues and limitations regarding automatic point logging.

Behaviour points can be awarded for positive or negative behaviour on Arbor. There are a few different places you can record points from.

Permissions

To add behaviour points, you will need either:

  • School: Behaviour: Log Point Award
  • School: Behaviour: View All/My Students and Student: Behaviour: Administer All/My Students

All business roles will have the Student: Behaviour: Log Point Award permission by default, but if your school manages your permissions you may need to ask your admin team to give you permission using these instructions.

Recording behaviour points

From the Homepage

Select your point award scale to record points for from your Favourites on your homepage.

From a Lesson Dashboard

You may already be viewing a lesson through the lesson dashboard of your class (the page you use to take the register and see class and student details).

On the lesson dashboard, there are two ways you can record points – either click the orange Behaviour button to get a drop-down menu, or tick the names of the students involved and click the Bulk action button in the Students table.

From the student's profile

Go to the Behaviour section from the left-hand menu on the student's profile.

Click the Behaviour Points tab then click +Add.

From the Behaviour Dashboard

You can jump to the behaviour section of Arbor through your Favourites on My Homepage, or by going to Students > Behaviour > Point Awards. Click the green Award/deduct points button.

When using this option, make sure you select which scale to add points for.

Update the slide over with the details, then click Award/Deduct points. When logging points you need to include:

  • Who you are awarding the point to - this can be an individual student or a group
  • The reason
  • The points being awarded or taken away

Additional notes can be added including the time, location, staff who gave the points, as well as linking it to the lesson students were in at the time.

You can also upload a file, e.g. evidence such as a photo or copy of a piece of work too.

Top Tip: The maximum number of characters allowed in the Narrative field is 255 characters, to prevent further text being cut off in reports etc.

I can't add behaviour points

If you can't record behaviour points, take a look at this article: I can't add behaviour points

Can we automatically add points?

You can't automatically log points, such as for students with a certain high attendance percentage.

However, you can have certain behaviour incidents (positive or negative) also award points: Setting up Behaviour workflows

What's next?

You can see how to report on behaviour points as a teacher here: How can I see behaviour statistics for my class?

Or how to see who has the most points in a certain timescale here: How can I see who has the most behaviour points?

  • Hi Sally, there haven't been any recent updates to this area. It may be that you're clicking to create a behaviour incident rather than add points to one of your point award scales, which is why the slide over would look like it does here: https://support.arbor-education.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000183829-Logging-editing-and-resolving-Behaviour-Incidents

If not, please get in touch with our support team via email or chat, as we may need to take a look at your site so cannot resolve any issues here.

  • Hi Jamie, you won't be able to record behaviour points from within a custom report.

However, you will be able to record points for all of your custom group at once. Just select to add behaviour points from your homepage and select the custom group in the Student(s) box!
