From September 2025, schools will need to register Reception pupils for the Reception Baseline Assessment (RBA) using the DfE’s RBA service.
The DfE recommends doing this by uploading a CTF file that contains the required pupil and school details. To support this, you can now generate an RBA Partial CTF in Arbor.
What is the RBA Partial CTF?
The RBA Partial CTF is a new file type introduced in the DfE’s CTF 25.0 specification. It includes the pupil and school details needed for Reception Baseline registration.
Only Reception pupils are included in this file. The format follows the DfE’s official specification and can be uploaded directly to the DfE’s RBA service.
When should I use this export?
You should generate this export when registering Reception pupils for the Reception Baseline Assessment on the DfE RBA service, starting in September 2025.
How to generate the RBA Partial CTF
You can create the file in any of the following places:
- Go to School > Data > Export > CTF Export, then open the Assessment tab
- School > Data > Export > Assessment Results
- Students > Assessments > DfE Assessments > Export Results
On one of these pages:
- Click the green +Add button
- Select Partial CTF containing Reception Baseline data as the export type.
- This will automatically select Reception as the student group.
- Click on the Generate button.
- Download the XML file and upload it to the DfE RBA service.
Top Top: If the CTF file does not download immediately, it is being generated in the background. Once the file is ready, you will see a notification on the left-hand side of your Arbor page (the Bell icon). Simply click on this to download the file.
