This article explains how to create a CTF (Common Transfer File) without specifying a Destination School or Local Authority, typically for updating third-party systems. It details the steps to select an Unknown Destination option during the creation process.
There are 2 ways you can create a CTF; these are explained in detail here.
There may also be times when you need to create a CTF with no Destination School or Local Authority. The most common reason is that you are using the CTF to update a third-party system you may be using; failing to specify that there is no destination for the CTF could lead to errors when importing the file to the third-party.
To create the CTF, follow the same steps as outlined here. The only difference is that, when prompted for a destination in Step 1 of the export, you must select one of the Unknown Destination options:
- Unknown destination in England or Wales
- Unknown destination outside England or Wales
Once you have done this and proceed to the next step, the CTF will have a series of letters in the destination boxes and can then be accepted by the recipient as the destination is not defined.
