Now available - EYFS early adopter assessments

If your school is participating in the EYFS reforms early adopter year, you can now set up and begin using these new EYFS assessments. This includes both summative and curriculum assessments for the Development Matters and Early Years Foundation Stage assessments, so you'll be able to use whichever you need to suit the needs of your school.

For more guidance on how early adopter schools can implement the changes to your curriculum and practice, take a look at these DfE guides.

Schools who are not Early adopters

If you’re not an early adopter school, you should continue to use the existing EYFS framework until the full rollout in September 2021.

Early adopter schools

If your school is an early adopter school, you can set up the new frameworks in a similar way to how you set up other assessments in Arbor! Just follow the instructions below for the assessment type you want to set up.

  • It is possible to link your Early Learning Goals 2021 assessments in Arbor so the curriculum grades suggest a summative assessment mark. You'll just have needed to set up the summative assessment first, and select this assessment in step 4 when setting up your curriculum assessment.
  • It isn't possible to link the Development Matters 2020 curriculum assessment to the Development Matters 2020 summative assessments. We have decided not to link the new development matters curriculum assessment to the formative assessments, as the larger number of statements in the 0-3 section would over mark the suggested marks.

Setting up the new summative assessments

EYFS Development Matters 2020

First, you'll need to add the summative assessments to your Assessment Framework from Students > Assessment > Assessment > Assessment Framework > Assessment Catalogue. Click to Create new assessment.

Screenshot_2020-10-16_at_09.50.07.png

Select the summative assessment type and change the drop-down menu to 'Early Years' to see the new templates.

Tick the boxes next to all the assessments you would like to set up, then click the blue pencil icon to select Bulk add assessments. To prevent issues with adding the wrong grade set, only select all the FSP assessments.

In the slide over, select which grade set to use, then click Add. If you have selected FSP assessments, select EYFS Development Matters 2020.

This is why it is important to have only selected ELG or FSP assessments to prevent the incorrect grade set from being applied. If you have set up an assessment with the incorrect grade set, you'll need to delete them

You'll then need to add your assessments to your Assessment Policy from Students > Assessment > Anual Policy > Manage Assessments. Click to add assessments to your policy.
