Where can I log an incident from?
You can log an incident in one of four ways depending on your role and permissions.
Clicking on 'Quick Actions' gives you a drop-down menu, select Log a behavioural incident. A slide-over box will appear where you can Log New Behaviour Incident and you can fill the details out to create a new incident.
You may already be viewing a lesson through the lesson dashboard of your class (the page you use to take the register and see class and student details).
On the lesson dashboard, there are three ways you can log incidents – either click the orange Behaviour button to get a drop-down menu, click the grey button, or tick the names of the students involved and click the little blue pencil on the Students panel.
You can either type the student's name in the search box at the top-right of your page or you can also browse students to select the profile of the student in question.
When on the Student Profile select Behaviour from the left-hand menu and click on the Incidents tab. Click +Add on the Behavioural Incidents table.
You can select Behaviour from your main Dashboard 'Favourite Links' or select Students > Behaviour > Incidents. Once on the Incidents Dashboard click the Log New Incident button.
What information do you need to record?
Whichever of the ways you took to get to logging a new incident, there is a minimum requirement of information you will need to log the incident:
- Date and Time of Incident - The date and time can be set. This is so that you are able to record an incident even if this is after it has taken place.
- Students/Staff involved - The 'Students involved' section allows you to identify the pupils that were involved in the incident. Staff Involved will automatically add the staff member logging the incident. You can add additional students or staff after the incident has been created.
- Behaviour - The behaviour itself that is recorded relies on the information in your school's behaviour setup.
- Additional details - You can also note relevant information in the summary section, as well as link the incident to a timetabled period and site/location.
- Create as separate incidents - Ticking this box will create separate incident records for each student involved rather than grouping all students listed in one group.
On the next page, you can now see who the incident will be assigned to for each student. If you select a role like Head of Department, you can choose which staff member will be the assignee for each student, and you’ll get a warning message if this role has no staff attached. If you can’t change the assigned role, this means your school already has an Automatic Assignee set.
Reviewing and editing an incident
To review Incidents go to Students > Behaviour > Incidents. On the dashboard select Incidents > Reporting.
You can filter and group information by selecting the grey filter at the top of the table beside the date. The Reporting view also lets you see the list of recorded behaviours within the time period set in the filters, which you can change to the date range you want to observe.
Click on the relevant incident in the list to see the option to edit or add students/staff involved. You have the option to add a note or change any information that has a right-pointing arrow at the end of that row.

Can't edit an incident?
Can't edit an incident? It's likely your school has not enabled users to edit incidents after they have been logged, so you will not be able to edit the fields. This is because behaviour incidents can be used as evidence for exclusions, in meetings with parents and sometimes in court.
Don't think this setting is right? Contact your admin staff and ask them to change the settings.
Resolving a behaviour incident
You can view incidents assigned to and watched by you within the Behavioural Incidents Dashboard. Just go to Students > Behaviour > Incidents > Dashboard.
From these tabs, you can click on any incident and be taken to an overview page of that recorded incident.
You can resolve the incident if it has been dealt with and consequences have occurred. You can also unresolve the incident if circumstances change and further action or investigation is needed.
As well as the option to Resolve the incident, you can click the Take Action button to:
- Issue detentions
- Add a fixed-period or permanent exclusion
- Send an email or SMS to primary guardians
- Add a follow-up
Once you have resolved an assigned incident it will move to the Resolved in Last Week section of the Behaviour Incidents Dashboard.
