This error indicates that an invalid or archived attendance code has been used to mark attendance during the census attendance period of the previous term.
Which marks are valid?
See our article here on current attendance codes and how they count towards statutory attendance. You can also see the new codes that were added, and which attendance codes are no longer in use.
Resolving the error
To resolve this issue, you need to change any invalid codes to a non-archived mark. How to do this depends on where/how the attendance was originally recorded
- For attendance marks added via an Arbor register, you can see how to change invalid codes here: Amending an attendance mark for a student
- For attendance marks imported or migrated from a previous MIS, you cannot use the above method and will need to follow this guidance instead: Editing attendance marks migrated from your old MIS and adding missing marks
Other errors
This error may also trigger other errors, like:
- 2490 (Pupil reporting number of attendance or absence sessions with no corresponding reason (attendance code)
- 2531 (Sessions possible must be equal to the total of all attendance and absence sessions)
This is because any invalid marks are not counted in the same way as valid marks. If this is the cause of these errors, resolving the invalid attendance code and regenerating your census will also clear these.
