This article provides instructions for accessing My Classroom for users with different roles, including teachers and administrators. It outlines various methods for navigating to My Classroom and addresses potential issues accessing the My Classroom button when a room is not allocated. Additionally, it mentions the next steps for setting up a classroom layout and seating plan.
The best way of getting to My Classroom will depend on your permissions - whether you are linked to a class as a teacher or you're an administrator.
Permissions
- You will need the Classroom Management: View All/My My Classroom Screens permission to open My Classroom and use the Student Picker.
- You need Classroom Management: View My Room Layouts to see room layouts and Classroom Management: Administer My Room Layouts to create and modify them.
- You need Classroom Management: View My Seating Arrangements to see room layouts and Classroom Management: Administer My Seating Arrangements to create and modify them.
If you don't have permission, you'll need to ask your admin team to give you permission using these instructions.
How to get to My Classroom
For teaching staff (teachers, TAs and cover staff)
You can access My Classroom from the same page you access your normal attendance registers, your Lesson Dashboard!
To get to the Lesson dashboard:
- Select the lesson from your calendar on your Homepage.
- Or, select it from within your calendar in My Items > My Calendar. Click on the class which you'd like to take the register for, which will lead you to the lesson overview.
From the lesson overview, click the My Classroom button (1.) next to the Take Register button or select My Classroom (2.) in the left-hand menu.
For Admins (Office Staff, SLT, Attendance Officers etc.)
Admins also get to My Classroom from Lesson Dashboards. But as the lessons won't be on admin calendars, you can take different routes as outlined below.
From the Lesson Dashboard, click the My Classroom button (1.) next to the Take Register button or select My Classroom (2.) in the left-hand menu (see screenshot above).
From Attendace pages
- Go to Students > Attendance > Registers > Daily Attendance
- Click the class in the list to open a slide-over
- Click on the grey Lesson Overview button.
- Click the My Classroom button or the left-hand menu item to open My Classroom
You can also select a Lesson Overview for incomplete registers from the Students > Attendance > Registers > Incomplete Registers page with these steps.
From course pages
- Go to Schools > Programmes > Courses or Students > Enrolment > Academic > Courses > Overview
- Click on a course. If the course has sub-modules, click the + next to the course to reveal the modules and select the module for the specific class.
- On the Course Overview page, select Timetable from the left-hand menu.
- Find and click the lesson you want to access
- Click More information on the slide-over
- Click the My Classroom button or the left-hand menu item to open My Classroom
From teaching staff calendars
- Go to the staff profile of the teacher who will be teaching the lesson
- Access their Calendar by selecting Calendar > Events in the left-hand menu
- Click the lesson you’d like to access My Classroom for to open the Lesson Overview
- Click the My Classroom button or the left-hand menu item to open My Classroom
I can’t click the My Classroom button
If you can’t click the My classroom button or can't see My Classroom in the left-hand menu, this means the lesson hasn’t been allocated a room.
You’ll need to ask the admin team at your school to assign your class a room to allow you to use My Classroom for this class. They'll need to follow these instructions: Check all classes have been given a room
What's next?
Once you open My Classroom for the first time, you need to create a layout for your classroom (where the seats are), and a seating plan (where the students sit). You can see how to do this here: Managing layouts and seating plans in My Classroom
