Random Student Picker in My Classroom

The Student Picker in My Classroom allows teachers to randomly select a student during lessons using a projector. It requires specific permissions and can display either student photos or names. The tool is accessible only in the Student View.

In the Student View in My Classroom, you can use the Student Picker on your projector to randomly pick a student from your class.


Permissions

  • You will need the Classroom Management: View All/My My Classroom Screens permission to use the Student Picker. 

If you don't have permission, you'll need to ask your admin team to give you permission using these instructions.


Using the Random Student Picker

Head to My Classroom with the green button or the left-hand menu option on a Lesson Dashboard.


Make sure you're on Student View (if you see a grey Student View button, click it.

 

In the Student View, click the Student Picker button.

 

You'll see a pop up with our Student Picker.

 

Set a Spin duration (3, 5, 10 or 15s) and click Pick Student

 

The students available in the picker are all present and late students enrolled into the current lesson, even if they're not assigned a seat on the seating plan.

 

It'll then show the name of the selected student, and their picture if you've chosen to show this.

You can spin again by clicking Pick a student, or by closing and clicking the Student Picker button again.


FAQs

I can't see the student picker. Why?

You can only use the student picker in the Student View. In the main view, you won't have the button.

 

Click the Student View button in the top right. 

 

You'll then see the Student Picker button.

 

You can switch back to Teacher View with the green button

How do I show and hide student photos in the Student Picker?

Change this by clicking the three dots in the top-right to open the settings menu.

 

Use the tick box Show student photos whilst in Student View in the Student Tiles section to hide or reveal photos. 

This setting will save for the next time you return to your class's My Classroom page.

 

 

Click the X (where the three dots were previously) to close the menu.
