My Classroom FAQ

This article covers common queries regarding My Classroom in Arbor. If you cannot find an answer to your query in this article, check our section of the Help Centre dedicated to My Classroom here.

Who can make changes to a layout?

Room layouts can be used by anyone who teaches a lesson in the same room as your class.

Only these people can make changes to the layout:

  • The creator of a layout
  • Someone with the Classroom Management: Administer All Room Layouts permission.

This is to prevent others from making changes to the creator's layout. To edit someone else's layout, you need to be given permission or make a copy of the layout you want to use.

Can I flip the My Classroom seating plan perspective?

Yes, you can flip the seating plan in Student view so that students will see the seating plan from the other perspective. To do this, you need to add a new layout and seating plan that has the mirror-flipped perspective. You can then quickly switch via the drop-downs to switch the layout and seating plan.

Can we take the Meal Register from within My Classroom?

No, it is not possible to take the meal register from within My Classroom. If you use meals at your school, you will need to use the standard lesson dashboard to input meal choices for the day.

Can we check which classes have seating plans in bulk?

Currently, we do not have a central page where you can see which classes have had room layouts or seating plans created for them.

You would need to click into My Classroom for the lesson to check, and you can see how to access My Classroom to check seating plans here: How to open My Classroom.

Is it possible to create, edit, or delete seating plans in bulk?

No, it is not currently possible to complete these actions in bulk. If you would like to provide feedback on this area, please visit this page.

Can I print out seating plans in My Classroom?

While there isn't currently a function in My Classroom that you can click to print, we recommend using the print screen function either in your browser or on your desktop.

Right-click anywhere on the screen and select ‘Print’ or CTRL + ‘P’. A preview window will pop up - make sure you set the layout as landscape.

If you wanted to crop out any of the screen, you could take a screenshot of the page and put it into a word doc or similar programme to edit and print from there.

Do we have to set up our seating plans for My Classroom every year?

Yes, there are certain steps that need to be completed each year for you to be able to use My Classroom.

You can use layouts from past years as these are linked to the room, but you will need to set up seating plans each year as there will be different students in your classes. You can see how to do this here.

As teachers can access My Classroom at any time for their lessons, once you have completed Step 6 of the new School Year Setup process to schedule your classes, your teachers will be able to set up their seating plans before students return in September.

When is data updated in My Classroom?

My Classroom does not automatically refresh, so if someone makes a change, you will need to refresh your page to see updated totals.

If someone assigns your student behaviour points from the Lesson Dashboard, you need to refresh your page to see the updated totals. This also applies to attendance marks.

We recommend only opening My Classroom to take attendance right before you need to take attendance.

Can we assign detentions from within My Classroom?

No, it is not possible to assign detentions directly from My Classroom, but you can record behavioural incidents, which may trigger automatic detentions depending on how you have chosen to set up your behaviour incident workflows.

Can we add room features to My Classroom?

No, it is not possible to annotate My Classroom seating plans or room layouts to include shapes for:

  • Doors
  • Windows
  • Teacher desks
  • Cupboards
  • Benches
  • Computers

If you would like to submit feedback, you can do this here: My Classroom.

Why can't I add or edit a My Classroom layout?

If the lesson does not have a location, the My Classroom button will not be available to click on, so teachers will not be able to use My Classroom for that lesson.

Layouts are saved against the room/location, so it will only be possible to set up a layout if a room/location has been added to the timetable slot of the lesson.

Make sure that all classes have been allocated a room using the School > Timetable > Timetable Administration > Timetable Slots page. If you need to allocate a lesson to a room, follow these instructions.

How are the behaviour scores calculated in My Classroom?

Behaviour scores show the behaviour recorded for the pupil during the current lesson. Each incident counts as one score point and behaviour award points are counted by their value (e.g. 3 star points would show a 3 on the behaviour score and a negative 4 incident would count as 1).

Positive incidents and positive behaviour award points are added up in the green circle whereas negative and neutral incidents and behaviour award points are added up in the red circle.

How do I delete a room layout in My Classroom?

To delete a room layout in My Classroom, you need the Classroom Management: Administer All Room Layouts or the Classroom Management: Administer My Room Layouts permission. If you have either of these permissions, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Lesson Dashboard for the lesson that is scheduled for the room.
  2. Click on My Classroom.
  3. Click on the three vertical dots in the top-right corner.
  4. Click Edit Room Layout.
  5. Check that you have the room layout you want to delete on the right-hand panel and click on the red Delete Layout button.
