Why can’t I add a National Insurance (NI) Number?

Arbor only allows for one National Insurance Number to be stored against any profile. So if you are seeing an error message that the National Insurance Number already exists it could be a number of reasons:

  • Duplicate profiles - please see this guide which will explain how to merge or remove the profiles.
  • It could be stored on a guardian profile - please see this guide which explains how you can use the global search page to find historic records. Once you’ve found the guardian profile with the National Insurance Number you will need to remove it so it can be added to the staff profile.
