This article explains how to view Looked After (In Care) (LAC) students in the system, detailing the Statuses and Summary pages where users can see lists of students with Looked After (In Care) statuses.
Go to Students > Demographics & Educational Needs > Looked After (In Care).
- The Statuses section will show you a list of In Care students.
- The Summary section will allow you to see a list of the Looked After (In Care) students, categorised according to their Looked After (In Care) statuses
You can see how to add Looked After statuses here: Adding a Looked After (In Care) or Post Looked After status
The Statuses page
Go to Students > Demographics & Educational Needs > Looked After (In Care) > Statuses.
This table lists all students who have an active Looked After (In Care) status, including Post Looked After.
Any students who are Looked After will have 'Yes' in the In Care column, whereas students who are Post Looked After will have 'No'.
In this list, you can see the students' names, LAC status, and the Start Dates of the status.
If you click on the green filters at the top of the page, you can narrow down your search accordingly (as shown on the screenshot below). You can filter the students by their start and end dates, their student groups, and also by their status. You can also choose to display extra columns for Year Group, Registration Form, and House.
If you click on a student's name, you will be taken to that particular student's profile, onto the Looked After (In Care) section.
The Summary page
Go to Students > Demographics & Educational Needs > Looked After (In Care) > Summary.
You can see a list of every Looked After (In Care) status, along with the number of students who have the status.
If you click on a particular status, such as 'Fostered' (as shown in the below screenshot), you will be given a list of the students who fall under that category.
If you click on a student's name you will be taken to that particular student's profile on the Looked After (In Care) section.
The Derived Indicators page
Go to Students > Demographics > Derived Indicators and select Looked After (In Care).
You can click into the filters at the top of the page to filter for statuses, dates and you can also choose to show the inverse of the demographic. Once you're done, click Save Changes.
You can then download the table by clicking the Download button, or click on a student to see more details, or jump to their profile.
From My Classroom
Looked After (In Care) students will also have an LA tag for this status in My Classroom seating plans, for easy identification of their needs when teaching and taking registers.
You can read more about My Classroom demographics tags here.
Why are some Looked After (In Care) students not showing?
If the student is down as:
- Adopted from Care
- Left Care through Child Arrangement Order (CAO)
- Left Care through Residence Order (RO)
- Left Care through Special Guardianship Order (SGO)
They are classed as Post Looked After (PLAC) as they are currently not in care. This means they will not have a current Looked After (In Care) status. Looked After (In Care) will be 'No'. The profile could look something like this:
The second reason they may not show is if they have an End date on their Looked After (In Care) status.
- If they have been shown as not having a status and Looked After (In Care) still says 'No', it may be that an End date has been added and has already passed.
- If you are trying to add a historic Looked After (In Care) status, you will need to set a Post Looked After status instead.
You can see how to add missing Looked After statuses here: Adding a Looked After (In Care) or Post Looked After status.
