Student Profile - Assessments

The guide explains how to view and manage student assessments within a profile. It covers required permissions, navigating assessment pages like Summative and Curriculum Tracking, viewing standardised assessments, tracking progress, and analysing curriculum attainment. It also details using the Markbook for curriculum assessments and features of the Ad Hoc Assessments page.

This guide is the fifth in a series; the guides in this series are:

Viewing student assessment from the Student Profile

Top Tip: If there is no data here, you will need to set up assessments.

Permissions

To view a student's assessments, you need School: Assessments: View or Student Profile: Assessments: View My/All Students.

To make changes to a student's assessments and/or grades, you need School: Assessments: Administer or Student Profile: Assessments: Administer All/My Students.

If you don't have permission, you'll need to ask your admin team to grant it to you using these instructions.

Navigating to the Assessment pages on student profiles

There are various Assessment-related pages you can access from the left-hand menu of student profiles by clicking on them; each page is discussed in a separate section in the remainder of this guide.

The Summative and Curriculum Tracking pages have subpages that you access by clicking Summative or Curriculum Tracking to expand the menu and then selecting the sub-page from the expanded list.

Attainment

The Attainment page, accessible from the left-hand menu of a student's profile, displays all your student’s standardised assessments (also known as DfE Assessments), including their KS2 scores. You can see full guidance on this area here: View and edit past DfE statutory assessment scores for a student

The page has a table showing:

  • The name of the assessment
  • The mark recorded for the assessment
  • The date of the assessment

Click on an assessment in the table to:

  • See further details about the assessment and the student
  • Use the Edit button to make changes to the mark (if applicable)
  • Remove the assessment from the student's record using the Delete button (if applicable)

Summative Tracking

Click Summative tracking in the left-hand menu and select subpage Progress over time to see a chart containing progress data points for all assessments the student is assigned to, or Working At to see a list of all of the student’s subjects and their baseline, current and target grades.

You can see full guidance on these pages here: Seeing and editing summative assessment marks for individual students

Progress over Time

The chart on the Progress over Time page presents progress grades against a monthly breakdown.

Use the filter at the top of the page to change:

  • The Student shown
  • The Date Range to include data for
  • The Grade Point Scale (the graph will show assessments that use that grade point scale)
  • The Level Type used in the y-axis (this is the format of a student's assessment scores, like raw points or named grades)

After setting your filter, use the coloured button above the chart to include or exclude assessments that use the grade point scale from the filter.

Within the chart itself, hover your mouse over a particular data point to display a tooltip with a breakdown of the grade.

Working At

The Working At page lets you view data for the current year or past years by changing the Academic Year drop-down menu.

Use the Display dropdown to change how grades display. Options include showing grades with the assessments Default grade set, and As input.

Below that, you see a list of all of the student’s subjects/assessments and their baseline, current and target grades.

Click a field to add, remove or edit the grades on a slide over.

  • To edit grades, use the dropdowns on the slide over.
  • To completely remove a student's grades, targets, and baselines for an assessment, use the "Delete all" button on the slide-over.

If a grade isn't editable, it means it has been locked; it will need to be unlocked to enable editing.

Hover over a grade to open up a tooltip with further information about the grade, and click More information to view things like an audit trail of who set or changed the grade and when.

Curriculum Tracking

Click Curriculum Tracking in the left-hand menu and select the subpage Analysis to see a comparison of the student’s curriculum attainment and mark distribution compared to the school as a whole, or Markbook to add or see marks for the student by curriculum.

Analysis

Use the green Filter near the top of the page to change the date, curriculum, module, sub-module and grade set.

In the Attainment section, see KPIs (including comparisons to the whole school) for Curriculum Mastery, Average Mark and Curriculum completion.

Use the Distribution section's KPIs to see the distribution of marks used across statements within the curriculum. Click one of these KPI's to drill down into the data further and to see which statements have which values.

The Charts section below that contains two graphs; use the buttons at the top of the section to toggle between them.

  • The Curriculum Mastery Over Time chart shows the progress a student has made in understanding the curriculum. Hover over a data point to see more information, or click on a data point to open a slide-over that lets you see data on different student groups' mastery of the curriculum at that specific time.
  • The Attainment by Area chart allows you to see a distribution of student grades by subject area. Click on the bar for a specific module to drill down into it.

Markbook

Use the Markbook to view and amend marks and evidence for curriculum assessments.

Use the filters at the top of the page to control the dates, curriculum, modules, submodules, and/or bands for which you would like to see grades, as well as the grade format in which you want to view these grades.

You can add a mark and evidence for the mark by clicking the field you would like to update. You can also view and update any evidence, as well as see the mark history for each statement.

Ad Hoc Assessments

The Ad Hoc Assessments page, accessible from the left-hand menu of a student profile, allows you to view the student’s most recent Ad Hoc assessment marks and any corresponding comments. Use the Academic Year dropdown to switch between academic years.

It is not possible to edit Ad Hoc grades from this page, nor can you click on a field for further information.

The table has columns for the following data:

  • Ad Hoc Assessment - the name of the ad hoc
  • Course - the course the assessment is linked to (if applicable)
  • Date - the assessment date
  • Mark - the mark recorded for the ad hoc
  • Comments - any marksheet comments that have been recorded with the mark
