Creating an assignment

You can create assignments for your class, or set the same assignment for all your classes at once.

It isn't possible to copy an assignment or reassign a past assignment to the same or another class.

Creating an assignment for one class

  • As someone not assigned to the class, go to School > Programmes > Courses and select the class.
  • As a teacher, go to My Items > My Classes and select the class.

Click Assignments from the left-hand menu. You will then be taken to that classes' Assignments page.

To add an Assignment, click +Add in the Assignments section.

Add the details of your assignment.

You have the option to choose your Marking Type. This gives teachers the flexibility to create assignments that are only required to be submitted and not marked, or that only require a comment. You can select from:

  • grade
  • number
  • percentage
  • Comment only
  • No mark

Once you have added the details of the assignment and uploaded any attachments, click Next.

On the next page, you can decide on the submission deadline.

  • If you select a Due lesson, the assignment will be accessible from the chosen lesson and the due time will be set to the start time of the lesson.
  • If you select a Due date, this specifies the date and time the schoolwork should be handed in. This defaults to the end of the next lesson if there is one.

Next, you'll need to choose how the assignment will be submitted.

  • If you tick the Submit via Arbor box, students will be able to submit their assignment via the student portal (if you have activated this feature). All assignments can also be handed in in person and logged in Arbor.
  • If you do not tick this box, teachers will need to mark the assignment as submitted. Please note that on the lesson overview and in Student Portal it will say 'Waiting for the student to submit' until it is marked by the teacher.

Once you have chosen the details of the assignment, click Save.

Top Tip: See an empty markbook? You need to have students enrolled into the class before you add the assignments. You'll need to delete this assignment, add students to the class, then add the assignment again.
