This article explains how to set a student as Pupil Premium Eligible in Arbor by selecting specific indicators from their profile, such as Free School Meals and Looked After status. It clarifies the difference between Pupil Premium Eligible and Pupil Premium Recipients, outlines the necessary permissions for making changes, and provides guidance on identifying eligible students through a custom report.
The Pupil Premium Eligible tag is set by selecting one or more indicators from a student's profile. This guide will go through each of them and explain how to add them to a student's profile. In this article, we will be covering what makes a student Pupil Premium, and potentially eligible for funding and becoming a Pupil Premium Recipient.
'Pupil Premium Eligible' in Arbor is an indicator of whether a student may be eligible for Pupil Premium based on their background, such as being in receipt of Free School Meals. The Pupil Premium tag may not be a true representation of who actually receives Pupil Premium funding in the school (shown by the Pupil Premium Recipients tag). You can see more information in this article: Pupil Premium vs Pupil Premium Recipients
Please note: There isn't a pupil premium button that can be pressed to toggle this status on/off.
Permissions
You'll need the Student: Admin: Administer All Students permission to be able to edit the Background section of a student's profile or set them as Free School Meals. If you don't have permission, you'll need to ask an administrator to give you permission following these instructions.
Contributors towards Pupil Premium
The student will be marked as Pupil Premium Eligible = Yes when they have one of:
- Ever 6 FSM status
- Ever 6 Service Child status
- Current FSM eligibility (only if the student is between 5 and 15 years of age)
- Current Service Child status
- Any sort of Looked after (In Care) status, even if they are no longer in care. The only status that will not trigger Pupil Premium is With Parents (under the supervision of social services)
As such if you remove all of these indicators, the student will no longer be classed as Pupil Premium Eligible.
Free School Meal Eligibility
To set FSM status, go to the Background section of the student's profile.
Click on the Free School Meal field and click Add Free School Meal Eligibility.
Input the relevant dates from the slide over and click Add Eligibility.
Ever 6 FSM
Schools receive Pupil Premium funding to support the learning of pupils who are entitled to Free School Meals (FSM). This funding continues for a further 6 years, even if the child is no longer entitled to receive free school meals.
Children who qualify for free school meals (FSM) at any point since May 2011, are known as Ever 6 FSM.
For example: If a child has a historic FSM Eligibility recorded from 13 Sep 2016-05 Oct 2016, under the Ever 6 FSM principle, they would continue to receive Pupil Premium funding for another six years after their FSM eligibility ends. In this case until 05 Oct 2022.
As such, the Ever 6 tag would be automatically triggered in the background section of the student's profile.
Looked After (In Care) Status
Please view our guide on Adding a Looked After (In Care) or Post Looked After status to see how to add this.
The student isn't flagging as Pupil Premium eligible
Please note that students in year 12, year 13 or beyond are not flagged as eligible for Pupil Premium, in line with DfE guidelines.
Report to identify Pupil Premium eligible students
We've created a Custom Report Writer report to see your Pupil Premium Eligible students and what criteria have made them be Pupil Premium.
Please Note that this report will only show those eligible for funding. Not all the students in the report may actually receive funding and become a Pupil Premium Recipient.
Click the link at the bottom of this article to download the report template. Do not open the template. You can then import it into your site by following these instructions: Importing a report
For example, if in the report, you have crosses (X) for:
- Ever 6 FSM
- Ever 6 Service Child
- Current FSM eligibility
- Current Service Child
But they have something in the 'Looked After (In Care)' column (that is not With Parents under the supervision of social services), they will be Pupil Premium Eligible. They may have this Looked After (In Care) status on the report, but it will be one of the other factors listed above that will be contributing to their Pupil Premium status.
