You can use the Lesson Dashboard to prepare for a lesson by reviewing specific student data, including SEN/FSM demographics, profile information and behavioural incidents.
To view your class, you will need to have been given access to the Course either through being an academic lead or through one of these methods: Giving permission for other staff or teaching assistants to take attendance registers
Note: The Dashboard tab is used to review information, if you are seeking to add information, please refer to the other tabs on the page e.g. Behaviour or navigate to the student's profile.
To access the lesson dashboard:
- Click on the lesson in your or another staff member's calendar
- Go to Students > Attendance and select the class.
Student information
When you access your Lesson Dashboard, there will be a table that includes all students enrolled in this class.
You can use this table pre-lesson to review and confirm student information, including:
- Their pinned notes (pastoral information)
- SEN information
- Their Incidents (Negative & Positive)
- The Attendance Mark for the lesson
- Any Attendance Notes (including Planned absences)
- Access arrangements (exams)
- FSM information
- Their House
- Their Registration Form
- Today's neutral behavioural incidents
Note: some of these columns may not be in the table initially and will need to be added using the steps found here.
Reviewing behaviour incidents
When you are in your Lesson dashboard, there are 3 columns already pre-populated in the table which will outline the students' total incidents, Negative incidents and Positive incidents.
When selected, a slide-over will appear with a link to the incident log where you can view all the incident information.
Reviewing Attendance Marks
When you are in your Lesson dashboard, there are 2 columns which provide attendance information; these are the Attendance Mark and Attendance Notes.
You can use these areas to view:
- Students who are absent already.
- Students who are due to be absent this lesson.
- Planned absences.
- Attendance notes outlining extra information.
When the Attendance Mark/Note is selected, a slideover will appear outlining the student's current attendance for the whole year and the reason for today's absence.
Note: This area is only to view the attendance information, you will not be able to edit students planned absences or attendance mark in this section.
You can see where you can edit this information here: Managing my class from the Lesson Dashboard Overview
Reviewing SEN/FSM information
By default, there will already be a SEN Support Column in the Lesson Dashboard table for you to review.
This column will predominantly show the students' SEN Status. However, when you click on the status, it will present the student's basic information, SEN Status (and the date it started), SEN Needs and SEN Notes.
Once the FSM column has been added, this will present which students are/arent FSM using a tick/cross symbol.
You can read more regarding this here: Adding Access Arrangements or SEN needs to the Lesson Dashboard Overview
Editing & Adding columns to the Student Table
There are pre-set columns which are available in the table when you first enter this area. These include:
- All Students enrolled in the class
- Their pinned notes (pastoral information)
- If they are SEN support
- Their Incidents (Negative & Positive)
- The Attendance Mark for the lesson
- Any Attendance Notes (including Planned absences)
However, some may be missing and will need to be added manually using the Add Columns section. For a full guide on this, please follow the steps located in the Adding Access Arrangements or SEN needs to the Lesson Dashboard Overview guide.
Top Tip: You can also hide columns by selecting the grey Hide columns option and de-selecting the ones you no longer need.
Using the Bulk Action option
There is also the option to perform actions in Bulk in the Dashboard area.
You would need to select the students you want to complete the action for by using the tick box, then select the green Bulk action button to choose which action to take. You can assign behaviour, add students to an intervention or send communications for specific students rather than a whole class.
