Logging Behaviour from the Lesson Dashboard

This article reviews the different ways you can quickly add or deduct behaviour points, record new incidents and assign detentions all from the Lesson Dashboard Overview.

The Lesson Dashboard can be accessed by:

  • clicking on the lesson in your or another staff member's calendar
  • going to Students > Attendance > Registers > Daily Attendance and selecting the class

You will need to have been given access to the Course in order to take the class register, either through being an academic lead or through one of these methods: Giving permission for other staff or teaching assistants to take attendance registers

To find out about the other areas of Arbor, you can log Behaviours; please refer to the Setting up Behaviour in Arbor guide.

Logging Behaviour Records

On the lesson dashboard, there are three ways you can log behaviour:

  1. Select the green Log Behaviour button in the top right corner.
  2. Select the Behaviour tab and then the specific incident/behaviour
  3. Use the Dashboard tab and tick the names of the students, click the Bulk action button and the action you want to carry out.

Note: You can only log behaviour in a lesson dashboard for lessons that have either already taken place or are due to start within the next hour.

Using the Log Behaviour option

The Log Behaviour option will remain on the Lesson Overview dashboard regardless of which tab you are on.

It acts as a shortcut for you to use. Once selected, it will take you to the page below (the same as the Behaviour Tab). You can then choose which action you would like to take; each option brings up another slide over where you can input the details of the event.

Using the Behaviour tab

You can use the Behaviour tab as normal to award or deduct points and Log a behaviour incident.

Note: It is not possible to assign a detention from this area, to do this you will have to use the other 2 methods.

Using the Dashboard tab

In this area, you will need to tick the students you want to log a behaviour for, then select the green Bulk Action option and then select from the dropdown list.

Depending on the option you choose, it will then create a slide-over where you can input the details.

Top Tip: This option is great if you want to assign an event to multiple students!

Awarding or deducting behaviour points

When using 1 of the 3 methods mentioned above, you will be able to either award or deduct behaviour points.

When you are in the option section below (1), proceed to select either Positive, Whole Class Positive, Negative, or Whole Class Negative.

Once you have chosen, then a slide-over will appear and it will ask you to select the points category (2) and then how many points you want to add/deduct (3). You will then be able to select the students it's regarding and add any details (4).

Note: Behaviour Point Categories can be edited using the Setting up Behaviour in Arbor guide.

If you want to see other ways to award points in Arbor please refer to the Awarding Behaviour Points guide.

Assigning a detention

You can assign a detention either by selecting the Log Behaviour option or by using the Dashboard overview page.

Using either method will bring you to the page below, where you will be asked to input the following:

  • Student/s
  • Reason for detention
  • Issued by Staff
  • Detention type
  • Detention session
  • Duration
  • Notes

Once you have inputted the information, select the Issue Detentions option to save this. To see where you can then view this information, please refer to the Managing Detentions and adding students to a detention guide.

Top Tip: If you select the blank star next to the Issue Detentions title, it will save this page to your homepage favourites!

Note: Detention types can be edited using the Setting up Behaviour in Arbor guide.

Logging an Incident

When you are on the Behaviour options page below, you can choose to log one of 3 incidents: Positive, Neutral and Negative.

Once you have selected one of these (1), a slide-over will appear; you will then need to select a behaviour type (2).  After a behaviour type is selected, you will be able to select the students involved and add any additional notes (3).

For more information on other ways you can log Incidents in Arbor, please refer to the Logging, editing and resolving Behaviour Incidents guide.

Note: Behaviour types can be edited using the Setting up Behaviour in Arbor guide.
