Lesson Engagement scoring

Schools often want to track how engaged students are in lessons, and assign a score for their lesson engagement (sometimes called Attitude to Learning). With our Lesson Engagement feature, you can:

  • assign students a default lesson engagement score when they're marked present or absent
  • have teachers adjust this score higher or lower during or after the lesson to accurately record how students engaged
  • track lesson engagement for different student groups and over time
  • identify students who's lesson engagement has suddenly dropped, to take action to find out the reason or add the student to interventions

This feature builds on your behaviour setup, enabling teachers to automatically record behaviour points based on student's attendance mark, and update this score after it's been recorded and as the lesson goes on.

Reporting and analysis

The next step is to take a look at behaviour in your school to identify areas of improvement or success, and then taking follow-up actions to keep everyone in the loop.

There are a number of areas you can use to generate reports and statistics depending on your needs. These are just some of the examples of what our pages can do!

To see more information about the names for different areas, please see: Glossary of key terminology for Behaviour

Built-in reporting

The Behaviour area enables you to see the bigger picture of your students’ behaviour by helping you identify the causes and implement a solution quickly. Keep track of positive and negative behavioural incidents, award or deduct behaviour points (such as merits or demerits) to students, assign follow up actions such as detentions or exclusions, and report on all the data you have entered. You can:

  • See a complete overview of groups and of individual students, building a picture of why something may be happening in the school.
  • Set up automatic behaviour workflows, to record incidents and follow-up with them automatically and consistently.
  • Action all negative incidents e.g. by assigning detentions and exclusions.

Each piece of behaviour information recorded adds up to help you find the answers to key questions like: Is there a new behaviour trend? Is it a particular location or at a certain time? Is there always the same students involved? Take a look here for how you can analyse your Behaviour logs: Behaviour analysis

Create your own bespoke reports

As well as our in-built behaviour analysis pages, you can create bespoke reports using the Custom Report Writer. You can find instructions on how to create these here: Creating a report

You can use all the features included in custom reports to make analysis easy, like colour-coding using conditional formatting, and custom calculated fields!

Top Tip: If you're new to using the Custom Report Writer, why not check out our Begin, Build, Boost journey for Reporting!

Bring behaviour data into other areas of Arbor

Communications

When creating emails, SMS, in-app messages or letters, you can use merge fields to pull in limited data about students. But you can take this one step further by adding behaviour data available in the Custom Report Writer as a merge field to pull into your communications!

Take a look at the video below on how to use merge fields, and this article on how to create them from your Custom Report Writer reports: Creating a Mail Merge using data from a Custom Report Writer report

Report Cards

You can use our built-in Arbor Report Cards, or create bespoke Custom Report Cards, then share them via email, through the Parent and Student Portals or the Arbor App!

Using this feature allows you to customise how behaviour items (such as Incidents) are referred to when sharing this information with parents.

See how to use this feature here: Create and send out Custom Report Cards

Interventions

Use interventions alongside behaviour to track and encourage improvement over time. Easily enrol students into Interventions from the Custom Report Writer or your Intervention pages.

Take a look here for how to get started: Introduction to Interventions in Arbor
