This article explains how to add a student to a single lesson in urgent situations, emphasising that this action is only reversible if you remove any attendance associated with the student. It details the process for adding students, the permissions required, and what to do if a student is added by mistake.
Permissions
You'll need either the School: Curriculum: Administer or School: Teaching: Administer permission to add or remove students in this way. If you don't have the permission, you'll need to ask your admin team to give you permission using these instructions.
When should we use this feature?
We only recommend this feature in cases where you need to add a student urgently to a one-off lesson, as this process cannot be undone. We would generally advise that, where possible, you instead give the student an enrolment into the course that lasts however long they need to attend lessons for.
If you want to enrol students into multiple lessons, you'll need to use one of the methods linked below.
Adding a student to this lesson will not add them to any other scheduled lessons. For example, adding them to Thursday, 24th March's lesson will not add them to Thursday, 31st March's session.
Adding a student to more than one lesson
Students are usually added to lessons repeatedly by enrolling them:
- you can see how to do this in bulk here: Bulk enrol students into lesson registers
- or for individual students here: Enrolling a single student
Add students to a single lesson
On the Lesson Dashboard, you can see which students are already in the lesson.
You can also add a student to a single lesson from here by clicking +Add. In the slide over, select the single student to add.
The single lesson will appear in the student's Calendar and Attendance Marks (By Date) sections on their student profile, but not in the Enrolments section.
What should we do if we have added a student accidentally?
Students added to individual lessons with the steps above can be removed as long as:
- They do not have any attendance recorded for the lesson
- They do not have an enrolment in the course at the time of the lesson
How to remove a student added to a single lesson
- Head to the Lesson Dashboard
- On the Students tab, click the student's name to open the Attendance Record slide-over
- If attendance has been recorded, the Remove button is not clickable. To make it clickable, remove the attendance first:
- Click Edit on the slide over
- Remove everything from the Mark dropdown (click 'X' in the dropdown)
- Click Save changes
- Click Yes, continue
- Click the student's name again
- On the slide-over, click the red Remove button
- Click Remove on the pop-up
