DfE Statutory Assessments FAQ

This article covers common questions regarding DfE assessments in Arbor. If you cannot find an answer to your query in this article, check our dedicated section of the Help Centre on this topic here.

How do we set up the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) template?

You won't be able to select or set up a template to input marks into for the MTC, as this process should be completed outside of Arbor.

Once the results become available from the Primary Assessment Gateway you just need to import them via CTF into Arbor following these instructions.

Can we download the DfE statutory assessment marksheet to check the data?

You may want to download the DfE statutory marksheet to compare against other data, or to share with staff at your school to check. Staff can check the data by going to the DfE Assessments area.

But if you do need to export or print it, go to Students > Assessments > DfE Assessments, select the assessment and go to Input Marks

The mark sheet will then load. Click on the Download button and choose the format you want to download the mark sheet in.

If you have an older operating system it may not be able to open a downloaded Excel file as the name is too long. To fix this and open the download, click the arrow next to the downloaded file.

Click Show in Finder (Mac) or View in folder (Windows) to rename the file to something shorter before you open it.

Can we copy marks between summative and DfE statutory assessments?

When you input marks into DfE statutory assessments, such as the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP), Key Stage 1 (KS1) or 2 (KS2) end of year assessments, these marks won't automatically appear in your summative assessment marksheets for the summer assessment period. And vice versa - marks you add to your summative assessments won't automatically be copied into DfE statutory assessment marksheets.

There is no button or automatic mapping tool that will move the marks across. This is because you may use different grades, so we wouldn't be able to automatically map them.

You'll need to fill in the marks on both marksheets. This ensures there are no gaps in your summative assessment data for analysis, and you can export the DfE assessment marks as needed.

If both assessments use the same grade set, you can copy the grades from one marksheet into the other:

  • To copy, select the fields and drag until they are all selected, then use Ctrl+C (Windows) or Cmd + C (Mac).
  • To paste, select the fields and drag until they are all selected, then use Ctrl+V (Windows) or Cmd + V (Mac).

You can see the marksheets side by side to make comparing and copying easier by viewing two windows.

How do we add missing students to our DfE standardised assessment marksheets?

Students who left your school before, or joined after, the date you've recorded as the testing date for your DfE assessments won't be included in the marksheet.

To add them, such as for your Key Stage 1 (KS1) and 2 (KS2) DfE standardised Teacher Assessments, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Students > Assessments > DfE Assessment and click on the assessment.
  2. Click Manage assessment.
  3. Click +Add in the Students section.
  4. Select the student(s) in the slide over, then click Add Students.
  5. They'll then appear on the marksheet when you go to Students > Assessments > DfE Assessment, click on the assessment and click Input marks.

Can we import our DfE statutory assessment marks from a spreadsheet?

It isn't possible to import marks for DfE statutory assessments using a spreadsheet or CSV file, like you can for summative assessments.

If you've recorded your marks outside of Arbor in an external tracking system, in a spreadsheet, or in the summative assessment area of Arbor, you can't move these marks across.

You'll need to fill in the marks on the DfE assessment marksheets. You can use the drop-down menus to select the grade. You can also copy and paste from any source, across multiple fields:

  • To copy, select the fields and drag until they are all selected, then use Ctrl+C (Windows) or Cmd + C (Mac).
  • To paste, select the fields and drag until they are all selected, then use Ctrl+V (Windows) or Cmd + V (Mac).

You can also use the bulk mark tool by selecting fields and clicking the Bulk action button.

Why am I getting an error message when exporting End of Key Stage 1 (KS1) CTFs?

When trying to export your Key Stage 1 (KS1) assessment marks as a CTF, you may get an error that states: No students have taken this assessment in the current academic year.

This appears when you've not input the marks into the correct assessment template.

It's likely you will have entered marks into the marksheets for Test Result assessments. These are used to record raw scores and marks that are used to make the teacher judgements, and are optional.

As the End of KS1 assessments are optional from Summer 2024 onwards, you do not need to record them. Should you wish to, you'll need to set up and add marks to these assessments: Setting up and inputting marks into End of Key Stage 1 (KS1) DfE standardised Teacher Assessments.
