Important information about syncing test results
We are aware that there have been some reports of issues with test results not transferring from MARK to Arbor. We have made some improvements to the sync, but it may take a few days (rather than syncing overnight) for your Hodder test results to show in Arbor.
We are confident that the integration will work for this data drop, but if you do have any problems, you can:
- Use Hodder's new MAT Data Extract feature for a quicker way to look at aggregated test data for your trust or school.
- Use our Custom Report Writer to produce similar reports to the MAT Data Extract feature to check your data. Click the links at the bottom of this article to download the report templates. Do not open the templates. You can then import them into your site by following these instructions: Importing a report
If you do find any discrepancy in data, please raise it with Hodder support on 0203 122 6006 or at onlinesupport@rsassessment.com.
Why use our integration?
Standardised assessments are a great way to ensure consistency and validity of progress and attainment judgements across the schools in your MAT. Take a look at our blog post to see how using standardised assessments could benefit your MAT.
Our 2-way integration with MARK allows you to bring KS1 and KS2 standardised assessment data into Arbor for analysis! For more information on this partnership, read our blog post.
The integration with Hodder Education's Rising Stars (RS) Assessment MARK System automatically sends student demographic data to Mark, removing the need for manual data entry and reducing the potential for error. You’ll no longer have to manually remove leavers or add new starters to your MARK system - with our integration this will happen automatically!
In addition to this, student results for Hodder’s PUMA, PiRA, GAPS and NTS termly standardised assessment tests are sent back to Arbor and displayed on our new School and MAT MIS dashboards. These dashboards allow you to analyse all your core student data in one place at both an individual school and whole MAT level.
How do I set up the integration?
For a MAT MIS
You will not be able to see any school PUMA, PiRA, GAPS or NTS data until at least one of your schools has set up the integration. Once the first of your schools set up the integration, the Hodder dashboards with then display data for that school. So you can see the data from each of your schools, they must each set up their own integrations. See the section below to see what this will look like.
If you are unable to see school data once the integration has been set up, check that you have an active Data Sharing Agreement with the school. You can see how to set this up here.
At the start of each academic year, your schools will need to update their integration for the data of each school site to populate correctly on your MAT MIS site. They should follow the instructions in the section below.
For a School MIS
Follow the instructions outlined by Hodder in the Setup Guide on their website:
Please note: The integration with Arbor should be set up by the member of staff designated the 'Access Co-ordinator' role on Mark.
If you have any issues setting up the integration, please contact the RS Assessment customer support team on 0203 122 6006 or at onlinesupport@rsassessment.com.
Once you have completed these instructions, you will be able to see the integration is live because it will be displayed in your Arbor MIS. Go to System > Partner Apps (API Users) > Approved Apps. The App will display as Hodder Education in this table.
Keeping your integration updated
Updating your integration each year
At the start of each academic year, you'll need to update your integration to make sure your classes and year groups have been updated.
You'll need to go to your Hodder Admin hub, and sync your data again. See page 9 of Hodder's Arbor Setup Guide (linked above) for full instructions.
When is student data updated?
Any changes to student data in Arbor will be updated in MARK overnight. Any new test results available to view in MARK will populate through to Arbor MIS sites the next day.
When a new student is added to Arbor, they must be added to a Registration Form in order to be shown in MARK. Again, this update will take place overnight.
How can we remove Hodder?
Should you wish to deauthorise your connection with Arbor, click the integration with Hodder Education, then in the slide over, click the red ‘Reject’ button at the bottom.
You will also need to log into your MARK Admin Hub and select ‘Deauthorise’ within the Authorisation screen to disable all syncing of users.
Please not that this will stop the authentication. This means you still may get the error notification detailed below.
Integration with Hodder Mismatch error notification
You may receive this error notification message in the top right of your Arbor site. You will keep receiving this notification until the issue is resolved and it cannot be turned off until the issue is fixed.
- This happens when data sharing is not approved in Hodder. Please follow this article to approve data sharing: Test data sharing
- Once you've done this the data will start to appear in Arbor and you won't have this notification.
- If this does not work, Hodder may need to reset the integration from their side. Please contact the Hodder customer support team on 0203 122 6006 or at onlinesupport@rsassessment.com.
How can I see the data in Arbor?
On a School MIS
You can view all your data for PUMA, PiRA, GAPS and NTS assessments in your Arbor School MIS by going to Students > Assessments > Summative Tracking > Analysis > Overview Dashboard.
The students included in these measures are your students in years 1-6 who were enrolled in your school at some point between the beginning of the academic year and today.
Here you can see a breakdown of the average standardised score and working levels for both assessments, compared with the statistics during the same term last year. Please note, during the first year of using MARK and Arbor, you may not see statistics for last year, as shown in the screenshot below. After a year, the bars will be colour coded based on your school's performance compared to last year.
You can hover over a statistic for more information.
You can click one of the statistics to drill down to see averages for each Year Group, Demographic and Ethnicity.
- The yellow line is the benchmark or average for your school.
- Green denotes that they are performing better than the average.
- Orange denotes that they are performing worse than the average.
You can also:
- Click one of the groups to drill down even further and see a list of students in that group and their mark.
- Click a name to view individual student data.
On a MAT MIS
You can view all your data for PUMA, PiRA and GAPS assessments in your Arbor MAT MIS by going to Analytics > Attainment & Progress > Key Stage 1/2.
Here you can see a breakdown of the average standardised score and working levels for both assessments. This average is across all of your schools using the integration and is compared with the statistics during the same term last year.
You can hover over a statistic for more information.
You can click one of the statistics to drill down to see averages for each Cluster, Year Group, Demographic and Ethnicity.
- The yellow line is the benchmark or average across all your schools.
- Green denotes that they are performing better than the average.
- Orange denotes that they are performing worse than the average.
You can click one of the statistics to drill down to see averages for each School in the Cluster, Year Group, Demographic and Ethnicity.
- The purple line is the benchmark or average across the schools in the cluster.
- N/A is displayed where no data is available for the school - if they have not completed setting up the integration.
You can click one of the schools to drill down to see averages for each Year Group, Demographic and Ethnicity.
You can click one of the groups to drill down even further and see a list of students in that group.
Please note: Any changes to student data in Arbor will be updated in MARK overnight. Any new test results available to view in MARK will populate through to Arbor MIS sites the next day.
Our data doesn't look right
If you have any students who have taken out-of-age-group tests (such as year 4 students taking year 2 tests) alongside their year 4 tests, you may not see the right results in your analysis.
Only students' most recently taken test results will show in Arbor. This means that if the out-of-age-group test is dated after the age-appropriate test, the age-appropriate test results won't be included for these students in your figures.
You'll need to make sure that any age-appropriate tests are recorded after any out-of-age-group tests. You could also view all the test results within the Custom Report Writer.
