Summative Assessment Analysis FAQ

This article covers common questions regarding summative assessment analysis in Arbor. If you cannot find an answer to your query in this article, check our dedicated section of the Help Centre on this topic here.

Can we report on assessment Target Judgements?

There is no built-in report which will enable you to report on Target Judgements for students.

Cells in marksheets are given a colour based on how students are performing relative to their targets. They are given a judgement as to whether they are Above, At or Below their current target. This is done using Target Judgements, which you can see further detail on here: How do Target Judgement Rules work?

However, if you use a number (rather than grade-based) assessment grading scale, you could:

Can I change the colours for Assessment Analysis?

It is not possible to choose which colours are used for which marks in assessment analysis. However, if you'd like us to develop this feature in the future, please submit your feedback here.

On your Summative Assessment Analysis pages, such on the Grade Distribution page, the colours in the display will vary based on the filters you set and when you view the report.

They may not be consistent across assessments or student groups, so in one assessment a 7 may be pink (as below), but may be a different colour for a different assessment.

How can I categorise HAP, MAP, or LAP prior attainment?

You might wish to report on student's prior achievement (also referred to as key stage 2 banding HML) in your assessment analysis, by assigning them one of these statuses:

  • HAP - High achieving pupil
  • MAP - Middle achieving pupil
  • LAP or LPA - low achieving pupil or low prior attainment

We don't have an area in Arbor specifically built for this as it is not a requirement for MISs. However, you can still input this data and use it in your assessments.

To determine whether students would be categorised as LAP, MAP or HAP, you could create a Custom Report based on assessment data, and add a calculated field. You could also export your data for external analysis.

Once you have students categorised, you'll need to record which students are LAP, MAP or HAP using a User Defined Field (UDF). You can choose to show this on all marksheets, or only specific assessments using custom marksheets.

Can I analyse assessment predicted marks?

You aren't able to use most of the Students > Assessments > Summative Tracking > Analysis pages to analyse predicted marks. You can view predicted marks in the Transition Matrix only.

Select Mark/Target: Predicted Mark in the filters to see how far a student’s mark is from their predicted mark or if a prediction was correct.

If you want to analyse your predicted marks in other ways, you can:

Can I analyse summative assessment baselines in Arbor?

Yes! Once you have added baselines to your summative assessments, you can analyse them from the Analysis > Grade Distribution, Attainment over Time or Transition Matrix pages. Just select to display them in the filters.

You can also report on them by creating a custom assessment report: Report on assessment baselines and grades in the Custom Report Writer

For example, on the Grade Distribution page, change to the Table View to be able to export the analysis data using the Download button.

Can I analyse Ad Hoc assessment marks?

You are not able to use most of the Students > Assessments > Summative Tracking > Analysis pages to analyse ad-hoc assessment marks. You can view Ad Hoc marks in the Transition Matrix only.

If you want to analyse your Ad Hoc assessments in other ways, you can:
